Do you remember the iconic dress Lady Gaga wore at last year’s Golden Globes? It was a gorgeous periwinkle blue ballgown by Valentino, and was created specifically for the singer, as an homage to Judy Garland, who originally played the role of Ally in a previous version of A Star Is Born.

Now in a mystery worthy of an Oscar-winning movie, the dress disappeared after the ceremony, but has now re-surfaced and is up for auction, with the starting bid a cool $8,000.

The reason it’s all a bit controversial is that the dress is now owned by a maid who worked at the hotel the singer stayed in after the Globes, and she claims it was given to her as a gift.

She claims the dress was left behind for her when Gaga checked out, and so she handed it in to lost and found. It remained there for the legal period, until it was given it back to her as a gift.

In a letter accompanying the auction, she wrote, ‘I work as a housekeeper at the Beverly Hills Hotel. I’m always present working in the Golden Globe events on January every year for 24 years. The artist (singer) ‘Lady Gaga’ left me this dress that she used for the day of the awards (won first place because of the dress). I turned in the dress to lost and found on the 8th of January 2019. After the time legally held by lost and found they gave to to me as a gift from her and today I want to auction the dress.’

However, according to TMZ, the dress wasn’t owned by Gaga, it was simply on loan from Valentino, who is now saying the dress was stolen.

Whether the dress is or isn’t stolen remains to be seen, however it’s still up for auction should you have a spare few grand lying around.

Either way, you can’t deny it’s a stunning piece of work.
